What license is required to drive on Guam?

Accepted Answer

As long as you hold a valid driver's license from your home country, you won't need a separate international driving permit for the first 30 days after you land on Guam (a U.S.-issued license is valid for 90 days). If your license was issued somewhere other than your home country, the rules may differ, so it's worth checking with us before your trip. One thing to note: we can only accept the original license — a photocopy or a photo on your phone won't work.

At what age can I rent a car in Guam?

Accepted Answer

Once you've turned 18, you're welcome to rent a car with us. Some rental companies add a surcharge for renters between 21 and 24, but we don't have any pricing tied to age like that. When you come in, just bring the driver's original driver's license.

Are there additional fees based on age?

Accepted Answer

No — for renters 18 and older, your age doesn't affect the price at all. Some overseas rental companies tack on a surcharge for renters aged 21 to 24, but that's not something ONES Rent-A-Car Guam does. An 18-year-old and a 50-year-old pay exactly the same rate.

What do I need to rent a car?

Accepted Answer

Come prepared with the driver's license, a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Diners), and a passport. If the driver doesn't have a card in their own name, a travel companion's card works fine. When the driver and the person paying aren't the same person, we'll need both of their passports. We're not able to accept cash, debit cards, or prepaid credit cards at checkout. If nobody in your party has a credit card, take a look at how to rent using cash instead.

Can I rent without a credit card?

If you don't have a credit card, you can still rent with cash — you'll just need to take all three of CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), ZDW (Zero Deductible Waiver), and NOC (Non-Operation Charge Waiver), plus leave a $150 deposit. The premium for each varies (by vehicle class and other factors), so check the Insurance & Coverage page for the current rates.

What is included in the car rental fee?

Aside from a few package plans, the rental price already includes the car plus automobile liability insurance (LP). That covers up to $100,000 for any one person injured, capped at $300,000 total if an accident hurts several people, and up to $50,000 for property damage. If you'd like protection beyond those limits, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are all available as options.

Are there any restrictions on installing a child safety seat?

Child seats can only be fitted in the back seats. Guam law requires a seat that matches your child's age and weight: an Infant Seat for newborns up to age 1 (or up to 9kg), a Child Seat for ages 1 to 4 (9-18kg), and a Booster Seat for ages 4 to 11 (145cm or shorter). *You'll need to install the seat yourself, and please return it to the counter when you bring the car back. Is the cost of gasoline included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

Outside of a few package plans, gas is at your own expense, and the expectation is a full tank both when you pick up the car and when you bring it back. Return it less than full and we'll bill you from our rate card, but once the handling fee is added that ends up considerably more expensive than just filling it yourself beforehand. Do you offer hotel or airport pick-up and drop-off?

We run a free shuttle between the Tamuning store and hotels in the Tumon-Tamuning area. We don't pick up straight from the airport, but it's only about a 10-minute drive — or about the same by taxi — from Guam International Airport to the Tamuning store. Arrive by taxi from the airport and we'll take $15 off your rental. Just show your taxi receipt when you settle the bill — no receipt means no cashback, unfortunately. After you drop the car off, we'll drive you back to the airport at no cost.

Can you bring a rental car to my hotel?

We're not able to bring a car to your hotel, I'm afraid — all the paperwork needs to happen at the Tamuning store. If you're staying somewhere in Tumon-Tamuning, check the list of hotels we cover for our free shuttle to and from the store.

Question 11

Is there a place to park my car at night?

Accepted Answer

Most hotels on Guam offer free parking, so there's really no need to look for street parking — just use your hotel's own lot. As a general precaution, it's worth taking valuables with you rather than leaving them visible in the car, or locking them out of sight.

Is the rental car an automatic transmission (AT) car?

Accepted Answer

Every vehicle in our fleet is automatic transmission (AT) — we don't carry manual (MT) cars at all, so an automatic-only license or a lack of confidence with a clutch is never a problem here.

Can I specify the car model and color?

Accepted Answer

We're not able to take requests for a particular model or color, unfortunately. Reservations are booked by class — A-Special, A-class, and so on — and the specific vehicle you get comes from whichever models in that class are available on the day. We can't guarantee a favorite model even if you have one in mind, so please plan with that in mind. Typical models for each class are listed on the Vehicles & Rates page.

Are children included in the passenger capacity?

Accepted Answer

Yes — regardless of age, every child or baby riding along counts as one passenger. Capacity ranges from 4 to 8 seats depending on the class, so it's worth factoring in anyone who'll need a child seat when you're choosing which class gives you enough room.

Can I ride in the bed of a pickup truck?

Accepted Answer

Guam law doesn't actually forbid riding in a pickup truck bed, but for safety's sake we ask everyone renting from us to stay inside the cab instead.

Question 16

Are rental cars non-smoking?

Accepted Answer

Every vehicle we rent out is strictly non-smoking. Even if you personally didn't light up inside, if the car comes back smelling strongly enough of smoke that we can't send it straight out to the next renter, a one-day rental charge will apply — just so you know going in.

What insurance coverage is included in the rental fee?

It covers up to $100,000 for any one person you injure, or $300,000 total if more than one person is hurt in the same accident, plus up to $50,000 if you damage someone's property. What is the cost if I have an accident?

Accepted Answer

A $150 accident-handling legal fee comes up whenever there's an accident, whatever coverage you happen to be carrying. Beyond that, going without CDW and ZDW leaves you covering $1,000 of the vehicle repair bill (which is capped at $50,000) yourself, and skipping NOC means you're on the hook for the loss-of-use charge — $250 if the car can still be driven, $400 if it can't. Skip insurance entirely, and you could end up responsible for nearly everything — the repairs, medical costs for anyone hurt, all of it — so if that worries you, an optional coverage is worth considering.

Can I raise the liability insurance limit included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

No — the liability limits built into the base rate (up to $100,000 per person / $300,000 total for injuries, up to $50,000 for property damage) aren't something you can pay extra to increase. *We haven't had an accident exceed these limits so far. If you'd still like more of a cushion, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are there as options.

Can I drive a rental car to Ritidian Beach?

Accepted Answer

The area around Ritidian Beach has seen reports of crime targeting tourists, the roads are rough enough that a flat tire is a real risk, and cell service can vanish entirely if something goes wrong. For everyone's safety, we ask that our rental cars stay away from that area. If you'd still like to see it, a local guided tour is the safer way to go.
